A meat packer who was warned in 2012 that he needed a
provincial licence to continue operating was finally shut down last year.
But he’s complaining to news media that the Ontario
Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs destroyed $20,000 to $25,000 worth of meat that could have
been given to needy people.
Ilija Bilogrovic, owned B & R Catering on Victoria
Street north which runs through Breslau on its way between Kitchener and
Guelph.
B & R Catering was operating without proper
licensing and meat inspections, according to information from a hearing in
Guelph in January.
Bilogrovic says he can’t afford to invest tens of
thousands of dollars in a meat smoker OMAFRA says he needs to meet standards.
He was smoking meat with equipment that did not meet standards.
So, from the bare outline of the situation available from the news media reports, are we to understand that this guy ran a meat business for five years without a licence?
If so, maybe the prosecution should have been against OMAFRA as well as against Bilogrovic.
