Trump says cancelling NAFTA “the best deal”

United States President Donald Trump has told Reuters News Agency that “the best deal” would be cancelling the North American Free Trade Agreement.

Negotiators for the U.S., Mexico and Canada are scheduled to open another round of NAFTA negotiations in Montreal on Jan. 23.

Trump said he’s aware that many Americans, including most farmers, want NAFTA to survive.

“A lot of people are going to be unhappy if I terminate NAFTA. A lot of people don’t realize how good it would be to terminate NAFTA because the way you’re going to make the best deal is to terminate NAFTA. But people would like to see me not do that,” he said.
