Charlebois, an agricultural economist who moved from Guelph
to Dalhousie a couple of years ago, says prices could rise more if the three
big Canadian supermarket chains decide to end discounting that began in
September last year.
The economists predict that dairy, meat, seafood and baked
goods prices will rise by about two per cent,
fruit and nuts by one to three per cent and fresh vegetables by four to
six per cent.
They also predict bigger price increases for restaurant
meals and for home deliveries.
