A poultry worker who lost four fingers while working for Koch Foods in Alabama has won a court order for $1.9 million US.
That amount is the total in
compensatory and punitive damages in a case charging the company with
“retaliatory discharge and co-employee liability”.
Leon Battle lost four
fingers while doing repairs on a piece of equipment at a Koch plant in
Safety switches that should
have cut power to the machine failed to operate properly.
After the injury, Battle
was told he would be fired if he hired a lawyer, reports said.
Koch Foods is one of the
largest poultry processing companies in the United States with about 14,000
employees. It’s head office is in Illinois.
