Poultry worker gets $1.9 million for loss of four fingers

A poultry worker who lost four fingers while working for Koch Foods in Alabama has won a court order for $1.9 million US.

That amount is the total in compensatory and punitive damages in a case charging the company with “retaliatory discharge and co-employee liability”.

Leon Battle lost four fingers while doing repairs on a piece of equipment at a Koch plant in Montgomery, Ala.

Safety switches that should have cut power to the machine failed to operate properly.

After the injury, Battle was told he would be fired if he hired a lawyer, reports said.

Koch Foods is one of the largest poultry processing companies in the United States with about 14,000 employees. It’s head office is in Illinois.
