Minimum wage is higher today

Ontario’s minimum wage went up by 20 cents to $11.60 an hour, effective Sunday.

In Alberta it went up by $1.40 to $13.60 an hour.

Both provinces have said they intend to keep on hiking their minimums until they reach $15 an hour.

Many farmers and food-industry companies have told their politicians they can’t afford to pay the higher rates.
