No OMAFRA help for floodin

There will be no extra help for farmers whose crops have been drowned by frequent and heavy rains over Eastern Ontario this year.

Ontario Agriculture Minister Jeff Leal said crop insurance is available and farmers could have purchased coverage.

This contrasts with special help via the Ontario Disaster Assistance Program for homeowners flooded by rivers this spring and summer.

My wife, Barb, and I were in Constance Bay on the Ottawa River west of Ottawa volunteering on flood relief last week, so we know about the provincial assistance and we saw the flooded farm fields.

However, I tend to agree with Leal. Buy crop insurance, or take your chances. Maybe topping up crop insurance claims is an option.
