Grain commission fees coming down

As promised, the federal government is reducing fees charged by the Canadian Grain Commission.

The net effect will be a $10 million reduction in fees, says federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay.

The announcement follows extensive consultations with the industry and a posting in the Canada Gazette of the government’s intentions.

Commission revenues have increased because farmers have been marketing more grain.

Last year Grain Farmers of Canada contracted with a private company to provide quality testing.
