Farm & Food Care looks ahead

Farm & Food Care’s board of directors “spent a good deal of the time in 2016 in strategic review of our role, assessing our strengths and weaknesses, and investigating areas where the farming and food system could gain the most with a collaborative approach,” say chairman Ian McKillop and chief executive officer Crystal Mackay in the annual report.

“Look for our new and refined direction and areas of focus in the next couple of months,” they wrote.

The annual report features successful programs and events that took place during the year, including hundreds of thousands of internet visitors seeking information about farming.

What the annual report does not contain is financial information about how much money was raised and spent.

Nor does it have anything to say about a few sensational cases of underground videos depicting animal abuse.

The most notorious was at Chilliwack Cattle Co. of British Columbia, the largest dairy farm in Canada where staff were caught on camera beating cattle to get them to enter a rotary milker and using a chain and tractor to haul a cow out.

The company and some staff pleaded guilty and were fined.
