The Brazilian government has revoked licences for three
meat-packing plants, effectively putting them out of business.
Two of the plants are owned by one company and the third by
another company.
Meat samples from those plants contained harmful bacteria,
the government said as it pursues an investigation that began in March.
Federal police found that inspectors were being bribed to
approve the marketing of sub-standard meat.
A number of countries, including Canada, stopped importing
from some or all of Brazil’s meat packers.
Most have since allowed trade to resume.
