MacAulay claims success

Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay is claiming success for trade missions he led to Viet Nam and India.

He says that those participating in Viet Nam identified $190 million worth of sales opportunities. Viet Nam is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world.

In India, he opened the Canadian pavilion at a major trade show, signed several memoranda of understanding and made progress securing the market for canola.

The Canadians participating identified about 400 leads and $3.5 million worth of potential sales during the balance of this year.

Ontario and Quebec governments also participated in the trade show in India.

Given the size of the populations of these nations, the sales potentials identified seem pretty tiny.
But who can turn down an invitation from the federal government to go on a trade junket?
