Chicken production increasing

The national supply-management agency for chicken is increasing production by four per cent for the upcoming six-week quota period.

Ontario’s increase will be 4.6 per cent under a national agreement that grants Ontario more quota when the national production targets increase.

Ontario has used some of its increases to give farmers who don’t need to own quota the right to grow relatively small volumes for specialty markets.

Consumer demand for their chickens has been strong.
