Small-cage ban moved up five years

Canada’s quota-holding egg farmers have until 2031, five years earlier than announced a few months ago, to get their hens out of small cages.

The announcement came not from the Egg Farmers of Canada nor from the provincial marketing boards, but from the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies.

But it may make little practical difference because all of Canada’s major retailers have announced they will no longer buy eggs from hens kept in any size of cage after 2025.
