Organic trade deal with the EU

Canada and the European Union will soon expand their acceptance of each other’s organic-standard products.

The deal is scheduled to come into effect at the end of the month, making trade easier for organic processed products.

They will no longer require a second certification if certified ingredients are used in their preparation.

A separate certification is costly and time-consuming, say people engaged in trade.

When the European regulation to bring the deal into effect is officially published, Canada’s equivalency arrangement will also come into effect.
