BASF rumoured to eying DuPont

BASF is rumoured to be preparing a bid to buy DuPont Co.

BASF, the world’s biggest chemicals company, has been working with advisers since last year to explore a bid for DuPont, said the people.

It held talks with the U.S. company before it agreed to merge with Dow and those talks didn’t progress, the people said.

ChemChina bought Syngenta AG for about $43 billion. Monsanto made a bid for Syngenta, but was spurned by the Syngenta board of directors.

Market analyst Jonas Oxgaard said a BASF bid for DuPont is not likely because “the math is terrible for this” following the merger of DuPont and Dow.”
