Ancient GMO discovered

The Furrow magazine reports that sweet potatoes developed from a genetic modification that took place thousands of years ago.

Scientists at the University of Washington believe it was Agrobacterium that carried the gene into sweet potatoes, the same Agrobacterium that researchers used to insert the gene that resulted in Roundup-Ready corn and soybeans and carried the Bt gene into cotton.

There are 291 varieties of cultivated sweet potatoes that have a genetic sequence that came from a different species.

None of the wild sweet potatoes have that gene sequence.

So, does this mean that organic growers will have to stop growing sweet potatoes?

And will GMO labelling regulations in some states require that designation for all sweet potatoes?

It all goes to show how folly of the anti-GMO people.
