Pitt Meadow Meats Ltd. has been fined $125,000 after
pleading guilty to cheating on food safety measures.
One of the company’s quality assurance managers was told to
keep quiet about test results that indicated there was E. coli 0157:H7 in its
products.
The British Columbia company is one of Canada’s largest
purveyors of halal-standard meats.
The offences took place about five years ago.
Since then the owners, Ken and Jeff Kooyman, have changed
the company name to Meadow Valley Meats. They apologized to their customers and
to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency for hiding the test results.
They apparently said nothing about meeting their Maker.
