Horsemeat fraudster gets 30 months prison sentence

The Dutch meat trader who touched off a spectacular scandal that received widespread media attention for sellng horsemeat as beef has been sentenced to 30 months in prison.

The prosecutor asked fir five years, but the judge decided on less because his business was bankrupted.

Willie Selten was arrested in May 2013 on allegations he sold more than 300,000 kilograms of horsemeat labeled as beef.


It showed up in products across continental Europe and the United Kingdom.
