Egg farmers donate $50,000

The Egg Farmers of Ontario is marking its 50th anniversary with a $50,000 donation to the Farm & Food Care Foundation.

The late Jim Johnstone started the Ontario Farm Animal Council in 1987 while he was chairman of the egg board.

Leslie Ballantyne, who handled media relations and many other responsibilities at the egg board, was the first and only OFAC staffer.

The OFAC later merged with another and similar farm organization dealing with pesticide and genetically-modified crops issues to become Farm & Food Care.

The egg marketing board has consistently been one of the most generous donors to Farm & Food Care. Ballantyne has continued to work for the organization, recently as a consultant.
