CFIA cancels organic licences

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency reports the cancellation of 51 organic licences during the fourth quarter of last year.

Nine were cancelled in Ontario, 10 in Quebec, six in Atlantic Canada and 14 in the four Western provinces. Twelve international organic licences were cancelled.

Most of the cancellations reflect voluntary withdrawals.

In all cases, the CFIA is reporting on licence suspensions or withdrawals by organic certifying organizations, such as Ecocert Canada and the Centre for Systems Integration.
