Mercy for Animals has hit another dairy farm with
underground video footage, but this time the impact is even greater than it was
at Chilliwack Cattle Sales in British Columbia.
Winchester Dairy outside Roswell, New Mexico,
has fired all of its staff, stopped milking cows and has dispersed its cattle
to nearby farms.
The New Mexico Livestock Board and law enforcement
officials are investigating the dairy regarding the practices shown in the
video.
Winchester Dairy supplies milk to Leprino Foods,
the world's largest maker of mozzarella cheese and a supplier to major pizza
chains including Pizza Hut, Papa John's, and Domino's.
Leprino Foods did not respond to a request for
comment.
Chiliwack Cattle Sales fired five employees
implicated in the Mercy-of-Animals underground video and said it would turn to
the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to help train its employees and would
install video cameras to keep tabs on employees.
Milk sales from that farm, which is Canada’s
largest, were also temporarily suspended until the British Columbia milk
marketing board could confirm that the herd was being properly managed. For a
short time the milk went to an energy-generating company in the United States.
Mercy for Animals also shot underground video at Hybrid Turkeys of
Kitchener and Horizon Chicks hatchery at Hanover.
