Quality Meats equipment for auction online

All of the equipment from the Quality Meat Packers plant in Toronto has been put up for auction via the internet.

Hilco International is conducting the auction which will close Sept. 11.

Quality went into receivership to restructure its finances, then into bankruptcy, earlier this summer.
It’s packing plant in Mitchell followed into bankruptcy a few weeks later.

It was Ontario’s second-largest hog-slaughtering plant and had developed considerable success exporting premium cuts to Japan.

Ontario’s largest hog slaughtering plant, in Burlington, has gone through three ownerships in recent years – sold by Maple Leaf Foods Inc. to an investment company in Florida, then to its current owners, Sofina Foods.

The third-largest plant, Conestoga Meat Packers in Breslau, close to Kitchener, is a cooperative owned by hog farmers.
