Potash Corp. aims to keep prices up

Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan Inc. plans to keep on trying to maintain prices, says Jochen Tilt who took over as chief executive officer on July 1.

Canpotex is a three-member potash cartel - Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan, Mosaic and Agrium
Potash Corp. has been pursuing a strategy of reducing production in an effort to keep prices from declining because Uralkali of Russia is flooding the market.

Potash Corp, is in an export cartel with Agrium and Mosaic; Uralkali used to be in another cartel with Belarus, but that broke down last year.

Uralkali has been reducing prices so it can sell increased production, so world potash prices have been declining.

Uralkali is, however, showing signs under new management that it’s going to reduce production so prices will rise.
