Three more Ontario farms hit by PED virus

Three finisher barns have been hit by Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus, confirming predictions by the Ontario Pork Industry Council that there will likely be more outbreaks before the situation is brought under control.

All three are finisher barns, indicating they may have bought pigs from nursery barns that have been hit by the virus.

The three are in Huron, Oxford and Middlesex.

That brings the total now to 28 farms in Ontario and one each in Manitoba, Quebec and Prince Edward Island.

The first Canadian case was Jan. 22 in Middlesex County.
