Snowstorm kills cattle

Ranchers in South Dakota figure they lost at least five per cent of their herds in the worst October snowstorm in a lifetime.

Some areas of the state were blanketed in four feet of snow that came after heavy rains.

Garry Cammack says his cows were soaked before the snow began and lasted two days.
He lost 70 cows and some calves. That’s 15 per cent of his herd.

Some ranchers lost half of their herds. They figure it will take two years for the state’s beef herds to be regenerated.
