Chobani held the official opening of its $450-million plant
at Twin Falls, Idaho, this week.
The one-million-square-foot plant was built in 326 days.
“At Chobani, we’re makers,”
said Hamdi Ulukaya, founder, president and chief executive officer of Chobani.
“Our business has been built
one cup at a time, by the hands of our people.
“Today marks not only the
opening of the world’s largest yogurt plant but symbolizes the revitalization
of U.S. manufacturing.
“We believe that no other
yogurt facility is comparable to the size, technology and efficiency displayed
in our new Twin Falls site,” he said.
He said nothing about the
company plans to build near Kingston, Ont.
The Kingston Whig-Standard
newspaper indicated earlier this month that those plans have been scrapped and
the city’s economic development officer blamed supply management.
