CFIA says more about Loblaws burger recall

The Canadian Inspection Agency has revealed more information about the recall of Loblaws’ beef burgers.

It says four people have fallen ill in Ontario and Alberta.

The genetics of E. coli 0157:H7 involved have never been seen before in Canada, so it’s not from XL Foods Inc. at Brooks, Alta.

The company that supplied the burgers is Cardinal Meat Specialties Limited of Brampton.

The burgers are Butcher’s Choice Garlic Peppercorn Beef Burgers with the UPC 0 60383 89363 7 and the code BEST BEFORE 2013 MR 03 EST 752 and were distributed by Loblaws across Canada.

The CFIA has no issues with Cardinal Meat Specialties Limited, a long-time supplier to many of Canada’s largest supermarket and fast-food restaurant chains. The CFIA did not say whether any restaurant chains are involved in a recall.

There has not yet been a definite link between the four ill people and the Loblaws’ burgers.
